FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Solar Kit (also known as a mini solar kit) refers to small solar photovoltaic systems (usually with 1-4 solar modules). These are connected directly to the socket and produce green household electricity.
The photovoltaic cells in the modules generate direct current from solar energy. In order to be able to use it in the household, an inverter is intermediated, which is already included in each combo, which converts the generated direct current into normal household alternating current. The green electricity produced from this is then fed into your house / apartment network via any socket and can be consumed directly by your electrical appliances there. As a result, your electricity meter rotates more slowly or even stops.
The Plug Solar Kits are self-installable and do not require technical installation, you only have to place the panel and connect it to a socket to start enjoying its advantages. Due to their light weight, the panels can be placed in many ways, either hanging on your balcony, on an awning, attached to the wall, on the ceiling or lying on the ground. The Plug Solar Kit includes metal security brackets that allow you to attach it to any railing as an option. In any case, the customer is free and responsible for placing it as he/she wishes.
Yes, you may use an existing Schuko socket to connect the Plug Solar Kit. In this case, the socket and house network must meet the current technical requirements. If you are unsure, have your existing electrics checked by an electrician who checks your power line, socket, fuse. In addition, we recommend using a Wieland plug, which can be ordered as an option for each package.
Wherever as much sun as possible shines, you will achieve the best yields. As a rule, a solar system should always be oriented to the south, but an east or west orientation can also achieve good yields. You should also make sure that the solar module is set up as shading-free as possible. Even small shaded sub-areas can have a negative impact on the overall performance of the plant.
Unfortunately, this cannot be answered across the board, as every household has a different power consumption. Nevertheless, covers of up to 40% of the electricity demand can be achieved. Example: One Plug Solar Kit with 500+ WattPeak can generate up to 500 kWh (kilowatt hours) of green electricity per year with a southern orientation. This corresponds to the annual consumption of a refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and TV.
The green energy generated by the Plug Solar Kit is injected into your domestic grid through the socket so that your appliances can use it. You will only make use of the conventional electricity grid when your consumption exceeds the energy that the Plug Solar Kit is able to generate, thus reducing your electricity bill.
Even when you do not use your appliances, the Plug Solar Kit helps you save by avoiding annoying phantom consumption, caused by the many devices that remain on even when not in use. Like the constant consumption of the refrigerator, the water heater, the router or the alarm. The TV, the microwave clock or oven are examples of some of the appliances that remain on “Stand By” and consume an estimated 130W per hour.
Using the example of a 500+ solar Kit, up to 500 kWh of green electricity can be generated. If you now consume 100% of this produced green electricity yourself, then this corresponds to a current saving of up to 700 kWh x 0.33 cents = 231€ per year. However, since the price of electricity increases annually, your annual savings also increase.
Although your Plug Solar Kit has a sufficiently high installed power to help the planet and save on your bill, it is usual that you do not have energy surplus because the electricity consumption of a house is high even when we are not in it. This is due to phantom consumption and the continuous operation of several of our appliances, such as the refrigerator or the water heater.
However, in case your Plug Solar Kit generates surplus, we recommend you to contact your electricity company to consult the conditions under which you will be able to inject this surplus to the grid and be compensated with it in your electricity bill. All are advantages! To do this you only have to ask an electrician to certify your electrical panel, something simple and very low cost.
Another option is to store the surplus in batteries, although nowadays the market has very high prices and few features. That is why from Plug Play Solar we are working to offer an efficient storage solution, light and at the best price.
Both the amount of money you save on your electricity bill and the CO2 you avoid emitting into the atmosphere will depend on three factors:
1. The power installed in your Plug Solar Kit, 300, 600 or 1200W.
2. The orientation and location of your Plug Solar Kit.
3. The usual electricity consumption of your home
In the Case Study that you can download from our website, we analyze the result after having a 600W Plug Solar Kit in the city Berlin, facing south and with an inclination of 90º with respect to the horizon, for a full year. We see as a result that the estimated economic saving is more than 350 euros per year and avoid emitting into the atmosphere about 400 kg of CO2.
So that you can make an estimate of your savings, we provide you with the European Commission calculator where you can find out the total energy in KWH that your Plug Solar Kit will be able to generate depending on its location, inclination and orientation. Once you have your annual KWH you must apply the cost per KWH of your electricity bill and the corresponding taxes. Finally, the KG of CO2 that you will be able to avoid emitting is obtained by applying a conversion factor to the resulting energy. In our case study, the following values have been applied:
1. KWH cost: 0.30468125€ (November 2021)
2. Added taxes: 5.1127 %.
3. Conversion factor KWH/KG CO2: 0.385
No, as long as your rental contract does not include any specific clause in this regard. Enjoying your Plug Kit does not require altering the electrical installation or drilling the façade, so when you move to another apartment you will be able to remove it without causing any damage to the house.
No, only if you want your electric company to compensate you for the surplus in your electricity bill.
The location and orientation of your Plug Solar Kit is important to optimize its performance. We recommend taking into account the following indications:
1. The closer to the South your orientation is, the better the performance will be.
2. An inclination of 90º with respect to the horizon is sufficient to generate the necessary energy. However, an inclination of 30º in summer and 60º in winter will increase the performance of your Tornasol Kit.
3. Try to avoid shadows that reduce the performance of your panels.

Yes, your Plug Solar Kit does not pose any risk to your home. However, as with any other device connected to the power supply, we recommend:
1. Do not handle your Plug Solar Kit with wet hands or barefoot, rubber-soled shoes and gloves will be enough to ensure your safety.
2. Unplug your Plug Solar Kit from the power outlet before handling it.
3. Keep your Plug Solar Kit out of the reach of children.
Your Plug Solar Kit is CE marked and complies with the requirements demanded for self-consumption photovoltaic installations. The microinverters included in your Plug Solar Kit are EN62109-2 certified and, therefore, comply with the standard required for photovoltaic power converters. At the same time, due to their IP68 protection, the panels can withstand rain, wind and a wide range of temperatures without damage. However, in case of strong winds, we recommend removing the installation for safety reasons. In case of a power surge, your Plug Solar Kit is protected, thus eliminating the risk of fire.
Finally, for additional safety, you can connect the kit to a fused socket and/or install a current differential device in your electrical panel. Both will provide extra safety against insulation faults and/or short circuits.
Yes, our kits can be used to charge batteries, but for these batteries to power your appliances they will have to be directly connected to them. In case you want to feed the energy to the domestic grid you will need an electrician. We are working to incorporate them to our catalog.
The panels of your Plug Solar Kit have a certified lifetime of 20 years and a 10 year warranty against breakage or manufacturing defects. However, although their innovative design provides lightness, strength and flexibility up to 30 degrees of torsion, please remember that they are composed of crystalline cells, so we recommend treating them with care to avoid fractures.
Yes, the microinverters included in the Plug Solar Kits are of the “On-Grid” type, so they are used in grid installations connected to the mains. In fact, the Plug Solar Kits do not need to be installed to the light box of the house, but they are directly connected to the plug, but nevertheless they do require that this network is connected to the power line. From Plug Solar Energy we are working to incorporate to our catalog microinverters “Off-Grid” with which it will be possible to have energy in installations disconnected from the power grid.
Solar self-consumption locates the energy source in your own home, drastically reducing the distance it has to travel to your appliances, and therefore reducing the electrical resistance in transporting it through the wiring. By Ohm’s law (U = R – I) we know that for the same voltage, the lower the resistance, the higher the current flow. That is why the energy generated by the panels will be the first to be used by your appliances, making use of the power supply only when your demand exceeds the capacity of your Plug Solar Kit at that moment.
You have 3 options, run the cable to the inside of your home by drilling holes in the wall, leave the window or door ajar or the most advisable, take an outlet to the outside.

No, unfortunately, this would require hybrid microinverters, which are not yet marketed for these powers. At present they are only manufactured for large installations. We are awaiting the progress of this technology to be able to offer it as soon as it is available.
Yes, our kits are modular so that their microinverters are ready to be connected together. So you can start with a kit of lower power and expand it whenever you want.
In Plug Solar we care not only about the proper functioning of our panels, but also that they can be recycled once their useful life is over. Fortunately, solar panels are very easy to recycle, when the modules are exhausted virtually all elements can be reused economically and efficiently.
The current recycling rate of a solar panel is 94.70%. For more information we recommend the following article.
