Frequently asked questions
What is Plug Solar?
Plug Solar Kits are a great way to make your home eco-friendly and provide you with electricity. They work by connecting directly onto the socket, so all that’s needed is some clear sunlight!
One could also speak of power-generating household appliances, since the devices can be plugged in and out and cannot be permanently installed like large solar systems.
Alternative names are “plug-solar devices”, “plug-and-play solar systems”, “mini PV systems” or “balcony power plants”.
With a plug PV system, you generate the electricity where it is consumed directly again – namely in the domestic final circuit of your home or apartment installation. The kilowatt hours generated by your system from free sunlight are fed directly into your household electricity. Every device in your household then first uses your “own electricity” before missing capacities are removed from the public utility network. This saves you significantly on electricity costs.
In addition, a plug-in PV system is not subject to approval compared to a large photovoltaic system, cheap to purchase and extremely easy to install. It is also suitable for smaller residential units and can be easily installed on the balcony railing, on the house facade, on the terrace, in the garden or on the garage roof. Thus, not only homeowners, but also tenants and garden owners become electricity producers. When moving, the modules can be easily dismantled, packed and taken away and thus offer maximum flexibility.
At the same time, with the use of a plug PV system, you make an important contribution to a sustainable energy supply and climate protection.
Is a Plug Solar device suitable for my apartment/house?
Basically, a plug-in solar device is suitable for apartments with
a balcony or
a terrace/garden or
a roof area above the apartment or in front of the window, a garage roof or
an outdoor wall surface oriented towards the sun.
The yield of the device and thus its profitability depend on various factors. This includes the acquisition costs, the orientation of the module and as little shading as possible. Particularly useful is the vertical mounting on the outside of a balcony parapet, which is designed to be shade-free to the southwest to the southeast. The vertical arrangement reduces the unusable production peaks in summer and increases the usable yields in the winter half-year.
Are technical adjustments necessary for the installation of a plug-in solar device at my home?
The connection to the power grid is usually made via the usual household socket, with the so-called Schuko plug. However, some network operators require the use of the special plug type.
Which plug connection is required for you, please refer to the registration conditions of your network operator.
Modern electronic measuring equipment (mME) is required for the use of a plug-in solar device. If you still have a conventional electricity meter installed, the network operator, as the basic measuring point operator, exchanges it free of charge for a modern, electronic meter.
How does a Plug Solar work?
The solar cells of the modules generate direct current (DC) from the solar rays. An inverter is connected to the modules, which converts the direct current into common alternating current (AC). The solar power is then fed into the house network via a socket and can be consumed directly by your electrical appliances.
Is the operation of a Plug Solar allowed?
Yes, the operation of a Plug Solar is legal if it complies with the generally accepted rules of technology. All devices sold in this shop do this.
How to install the kit?
The Plug & play Solar Kits are a great and easy way to harness the power of sun! These lightweight panels can be attached anywhere, from your balcony beanspot all they way down on ground level. They don’t require any technical installation – just place them where you want it then connect them with an electrical outlet for instant energy independence.
What kind of socket do I need to connect Solar Kit?
Yes, you may use an existing Schuko socket to connect the Plug Play Solar Kit. In this case, the socket and house network must meet the current technical requirements. If you are unsure, have your existing electrics checked by an electrician who checks your power line, socket, fuse. In addition, we recommend using a Wieland plug, which can be ordered as an option for each package.
Where can I set up the solar power kit?
The best yields are achieved when as much sun shines on your panels. You should always orient a solar power system to the south, but an east or west orientation can also produce good results. Make sure that there aren’t any shade areas in between modules for them all share optimal sunlight and avoid having sub-par performance due such obstructions from occurring!
How much electricity can I save?
Using the example of a 500+ solar Kit, up to 500 kWh of green electricity can be generated. If you now consume 100% of this produced green electricity yourself, then this corresponds to a current saving of up to 700 kWh x 0.33 cents = 231€ per year. However, since the price of electricity increases annually, your annual savings will also increase.
Are the kits safe?
Yes, your Plug Play Solar Kit does not pose any risk to your home. With less than 600 watts of power, the energy is not enough to overload a normal electrical installation. A tumble dryer, for example, is a much more dangerous electrical appliance from these points of view.
However, as with any other device connected to the power supply, we recommend:
1. Do not handle your Plug Play Solar Kit with wet hands or barefoot, rubbersoled shoes and gloves will be enough to ensure your safety.
2. Unplug your Plug Play Solar Kit from the power outlet before handling it.
3. Keep your Plug Play Solar Kit out of the reach of children.
Your Plug Play Solar Kit is CE marked and complies with the requirements demanded in Europe for self-consumption photovoltaic installations. The microinverters included in your Plug Play Solar Kit are EN62109-2 certified, therefore, comply with the standard required in EU for photovoltaic power converters. At the same time, due to their IP68 protection, the panels can withstand rain, wind and a wide range of temperatures without damage. However, in case of strong winds, we recommend removing the installation for safety reasons. In case of a power surge, your Plug Play Solar Kit is protected, thus eliminating the risk of fire.
Finally, for additional safety, you can connect the kit to a fused socket and/or install a current differential device in your electrical panel. Both will provide extra safety against insulation faults and/or short circuits.
Can I combine the solar kits together?
Yes, our kits are modular, their microinverters are interconnectable. You can start with a kit of lower power and expand it later on.
